A Guide to Registering to Vote in Maine

Maine.gov has a wealth of information on who can register to vote, how to register, how to vote, and voting rights.

You can register to vote in-person all the way up to and including on Election Day at your town clerk.

Maine also has automatic voter registration at your local BMV when you renew or get a new driver’s license or change your address with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Register for the first time, update your voter registration, or change your political party. All of this can be done online! You will need a valid ID number. It can take up to 3 weeks for your registration to be processed by your Town Clerk, so make sure to submit at least 3 weeks before an election. There is no cut-off date for registering to vote in person at your town office or city hall if you miss the deadline for online registering. You can also register right at your polling place on Election Day.
