Blackout the System: Collective Action for Change

When: September 16-20, 2025

Where: Wherever you are.

Blackout the System is a grassroots movement calling for people to disrupt “business as usual” through peaceful, organized action. The goal is to show that when ordinary people withhold their labor, money, and participation, even briefly, the system feels it.

From September 16–20, 2025, participants are encouraged to join a nationwide economic and labor blackout. If five days isn’t possible, even one day of action— especially on September 17 (Constitution Day)—makes a difference.

Ways to take part include:

  • Work to Rule: Do only what your job requires, no extra effort.
  • Go Slow: Intentionally slow down your pace—at work, on the road, or in daily tasks.
  • Withhold Spending: Skip unnecessary purchases, withdraw funds from big banks, or cancel unused subscriptions.
  • Spread the Word: Share the message online and organize locally to build momentum.

These steps, small on their own, become powerful when practiced together. For full details and resources, visit blackoutthesystem.com.
