The event, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the death of U.S. Rep. and civil rights activist John Robert Lewis, will honor a man who was at the forefront of efforts to ensure equal voting rights.
One of the focuses of the local celebration will be on a referendum backed by MAGA supporters to greatly curtail absentee voting. The referendum would eliminate two of the most popular days for early absentee voting, prohibit requests for absentee ballots made by phone or by family members, and require voters to show an approved form of ID to obtain their ballot.
